My Story

"I am passionate about the human condition and people's stories, I can offer a safe pair of hands."

I have experienced challenges personally and vicariously through close family members.  Via these intense times of anxiety and uncertainty I have managed to find my way through by studying art philosophy and embarking on a life time of evolving my self awareness; a key element to growth.  This has lead to a passionate interest and career delivering counselling and psychotherapy to my clients.

My experience has been working with both adolescents, adults and couples exploring a myriad of complex life challenges such as:

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Exam stress

  • Work stress

  • Relationship and family difficulties

  • Divorce

  • Health issues

  • Bereavement

  • Life transitions and changes

  • Feeling stuck

With the right support and help, I believe that change is possible. I have found that trust in the counselling relationship is the foundation for confidence to build within ourselves to make our own choices and be autonomous in our lives. I am committed to professional and personal growth through regular supervision, personal reflection and continued professional development.

How I Work

I use a person centred approach, meaning that the sessions are steered by you and about you.  There is great value in exploring issues and subjects together to find the tools to gain control in your life and make sense of what is perhaps feeling out of control.  I also have a keen interest in using creative options and tools when appropriate and always allow plenty of room for clients to express themselves in a non-judgemental, holding space.

As a member of the BACP I am guided by and work within their Ethical Framework.

TESTIMONIALS

"Of the mental health professionals I have worked with in recent years, Julia has made me feel the most comfortable. She has helped me to understand my anxiety and negative thought patterns, building greater resilience, self-esteem and confidence in my own abilities and decisions. I am in a far stronger position to face challenges than I would have been without our sessions."
